completely pointless
Not sure if it would even stay in. Mythbusters tested this myth, and they failed it. When they started the vehicle, it just shot right out as soon as exhaust gases made their way to the tail pipe.
When they showed it, it looked like it ws wedged in there pretty good. It was sticking out halfway at least though. I wonder if the results would be the same if they would have just jammed it further in. Probably wouldn't have had much of a different result anyway.
I wonder if they did jam it back to the point where the pipe gets smaller if it would help. So you said when they started it up it just shot out, did it shoot out fast or just fall out. Anyone want to try it and film it and post it on here=)
While it would be a fun experiment, I wouldn't advise to try it unless you were bored. I saw the episode a while back, but the potato just kinda chucked out...I'm sure there are videos of this exact thing online on youtube or something.
someone put a coke bottle in my trucks tailpipe while i was in school and driving home still in the parking lot i could hear a little whistle and i was like wtf so i gunned it and it just popped out, i saw it rolling on the pavement and had no more whistle
not a potato but still a funny story
