Default pushrod or modular?

At the moment I'm stuck with a non-pi 4.6 in the 97 GT. I've been close to buying some pi heads and intake with plans of making the swap. Lately, I've been thinking that it'd be neat to build a trick 5.0. I found a complete 302 for $100. (not sure running condition or not)
I'm trying not to waste money and effort in the long run because after I get established after graduating college, I'd like tohave a high 11 secondor 12 flat car. I'd like to put either a pro charger or KB on it at that point. Because of school, money is tight right now, so a 03-04 Cobra motor is not feasible. Not sure on a pre '03 Cobra motor though?
So the question is would you start with a 302 and slowly build it, or would youwant a PI swap and go from there, or possibly an earlier cobra setup?

I would save up and get the pi heads and possibly cams etc. because you will probably have to modify mounts, tranny etc. to use a 5.0 block. Modulars are pretty good modifiers!

if you're trying to go high 11s, low 12s and you're in college the answer is a ls1 powered vehicle

A guy I work with hit 12.87 at 111 mph in his LS1. It's a '99 T/A, not Ram Air, car has acat back, LT's, y-pipe, and an intake lid.

Personally, I would go w/ the pushrod 5.0. I think they are a lot cheaper to mod than modulars. You can swap in a 5.0 k-member or get a tubular k-member for the swap. You might also want to think 4v Cobra too. They are nice to mod if you want to go modular. I would do that if I had the chance.

PI swap and a nitrous kit will def get you into the 12s I would say. If you want 11s and your still in college get an LS1 camaro and put a 150 shot on it.
