I've always thought double clutching was when you press the clutch in to pull the shifter out of gear, release the clutch, and press the clutch back in to select the next gear that you want. Thats how alot of truckers have to drive but its because of how their transmission was set up.

I didnt know everyone referred to 'rev matching' as double clutching these days. I always took them to be completely different.
If you're referring to my post, I didn't call it DC at all. All I said is I'm glad I got the feel of rev matching my car. When I ride with alot of my friends I sometimes get nervous when they downshift around corners w/o matching RPM's or when they do a 4-2 downshift when they're trying to roll race someone.
No, I wasn't really referring to anyone in general... just wonderin why everyone thinks rev matching is double clutching cuz its not.

I always rev match unless I'm racing. I mean obviouslyyou can't really whenyou're at WOT because the rpms dont drop fast enough but a little abuse here and there won't hurt much.

I think downshifting is where you really need to be carefull though. If you're not rev matching when you downshift that is what really hurts your car. Worst thing I've ever done to my car was to drop into third going 70 before I got gears. I floored the gas so it actually wasn't all that bad but I was at 6000 rpm lol. Kinda scared me cuz if I had sped up to like 75 then done that I could have seriously messed something up. I think you have to just learn your car and once you've driven it enough, rev matching is like second nature. It definitely is for me now.

Power shifting tears **** up like crazy I would bet. I have never done it and never will. There is a reason we have a clutch in our cars..

Do you even know how to powershift? You use the clutch in powershifting. Except instead of letting off the gas and pressing the clutch in, you just push the clutch in really fast and shift while your foot is still on the throttle. It's to prevent the RPM's from dropping out of the powerband. It's not that bad for the tranny if you do it sparingly. Powershifting down the street on your way to McDonalds or something is stupid, but if you're at the track every now and then it's not going to damage anything if you do it right.

I have tried heel-toe shifting, it just seems notworth the effort. I rev match when down shifting usually. If I'm racing someone or some douchebag tries flying up on me to try to race or be an ******* and cut me off just regular old downshift and throttle.

like said above i rev match in downshifts ALWAYS because it helps the shift become smoother and if ne1 here rides a bike or if u have try downshifting into 1 at 25-30 with out rev matching and see how ur back tire handles it

The only time I've heard of "double clutching" actually used is for downshifting on road courses. And of course Fast and Furious now available on blue ray and hd dvd.
Hahah nice, i learned all my driving skills from that movie, when i race a 10 second car in the 1/4 mile it really takes 25 minutes, and i shift gears about 17 times just like vin in the charger
