If your roomie thinks you are lowballing the seller, ask him to come up with the difference if it will make him feel better about it

I would not buy this car.

My reasons

1. The odo doesnt work, this means it has True Miles Unknown. This hurts the cars value.

2. Its 12 years old.

3. The paint is expensive to repair.

4. Love you.

uhmmm...?

lol

BTW guys look at this. Two auctions and neither of them sold. The first one should be an even better deal than the car I'm looking at - no mechanical issues mentioned (inspected) and half the miles. Yet it still didn't sell.

There are other cars on autotrader. Some seem like a better deal than others but you can't ever tell what anything sold for or if it sold. All you can see are ads and asking prices.

High book value on a regular non mystic 96 Cobra w/55K is $9500. Go to kbb.com. That's private party. Keep in mind it's hard to get a picture of the value with kbb - since this is essentially a special LE car.

That's partly why I posted this thread in the first place.

The owner put money into the car which adds to the value. Mentioned that stuff in the first post of the thread. However, it needs repair work, which negates some of that additional value.

I would be careful to be honest. Why did it need a new windshield? Why is the tach messed up? New clutch at 55k isn't terrible, but not good either. I'd just check the CarFax report, that should really be what you need to worry about.

Like everyone else said, if the paint is not great, do NOT think it's just a touch up job. I almost bought a Mystic and a new paint job from Ford was something outrageous like $10-12k. I think it's like $600 just for a container of Ford's Mystic paint.

After thinking about it he got back to me this morning. He is firm on his initial offer of 10,200 on the car and wants to get what he paid for it originally. He feels he should get that for it because he's put some money into the car. Therefore, he won't budge on the price.

I walked on it. If he won't deal with me at all on the price then I'll just wait until something better comes along.

i wouldn't do it, i would offer 8.5k

1)the odo doesnt work @ only 55k (why)
2)the clutch is worn at 55k? (wtf)
3)paint is pricey
4)i might now even be a real mystic check the vin/ car fax it

Well it's a done deal. I'm not going to do it. He won't come down on the price at all even after finding out about the clutch. He has put some money into the car and wants to get it back, therefore feels his initial asking price is reasonable. I don't want the car bad enough to pay that much for it and then have to put another $1300 worth of work into it.

The odometer works fine. It's the tachometer which is broken. It was like that when he bought the car.

But yeah. A clutch at 55K means it was ridden pretty hard or abused.
