yes, but shift kits change that considerably... manuals always have the POTENTIAL to be out driven, but 95 times out 100 the auto will shift better, but the auto uses a good bit more power to operate itself, so you would need more power in an auto to beat a manual
Autos shift at the rev limit automatically while manuals can over rev and lose ET, shift slow, and even hang a shift and lose totally, not to mention are at least a $1000 option I could live without. Manuals are way more fun to play with so what do you really want?
This is stock vs stock, no shift kit bull****. Stick should win, but it won't be by a raping like people say it will be (you know, the same people that think auto's are gay since a ****ing transmission has sexual preference and a *****/vagina). And there's no 'well WHAT IF THE GUYS MISSES A GEAR', the OP clearly stated to asume the manual driver knows how to drive.

given a good driver, the Manual driver willbeat the auto.(assuming we are talking a new edge GT here) I have seen a CAI catback + nittonew edge go 13.7 before (so pretty damn stock). Granted this is far from the norm, i would expect a stock hard top new edge witha good launch and a good driver to be at least 14.1. Most stock autos are 14.4 - 14.5or so (as far as i have seen)
The only choice you should be looking at is which one you would rather drive. Its not like they are seconds in time apart....
If im not mistaken the fastest stock GT time was done in an automatic. From what i have seen the time differences between a manual and an auto is maybe .2...
Anyways... As long as the person is happy with what they are driving the transmission really wont affect the performance to a noticable degree.
