a guy on svtperformance gps'd his 4.30's at 165mph and downhill at 170ish.
only way it will hurt your rear axle is if you launch with sticky tires seeing how the steeper gear makes more torque'y

like they just said it will be fine unless you are going to the track and launching hard, in typical street conditions you will spin and not put near the pressure on the axle.
dont listen to the second post about being able to hit 170 on 4.30s....yes it can be done, but you need a lot of power to back it up... svtperformance means it was most likely a cobra that did it, a near stock GT is not going to do 170 with 4.30 gears... not saying you are wrong 01snake, just saying that the way you typed it is a little deceiving

And don't worry about your axles if you do notever go to thedrag strip. And if you do go, you willonly need to worry if you are usingM/T et streets or race slicks. You need a pretty sticky tire to break them, as a street tire will spin before the axle breaks.
