Default 2003 GT Exhaust Question

First time poster here asking for a little help, I just purchased a 2003 GT that has stock headers, stock H-pipe and bolt on flowmaster 40 series. First I'm a little disappointed in the rust from the flowmaster, car only has 32,000 miles, but I'm going stay with them. I would like to purchase a high flow catted X or H pipe, not sure of the emission rules in Michigan so I would rather be safe then sorry, also would like new headers. My problem(s) arewhich will sound better with the flowmaster an X or H pipe and which type of header to puchase short or long tube. I would like to maximize my horsepower and also have a good but different sound. My head is spinning from all the options, I have listened to different setups on you tube and I'm still lost. Any help would be appreciated.

Flows sound good with either one, but the H pipe is more favorable.

As of now, Michigan doesn't do emissions checks, so pretty much everyone runs O/R mid pipes.

o/r h is going to sound best with flowmasters... o/r x is best for power, but the power difference between the x and h is so minimal that choosing one over the other based on power is pointless, just get whichever sounds the best....and LT's are way better than shorties.... i would go with mac or bbk LT's, o/r h, and the flow 40s....dont get a catted pipe, cats are lame and theyre only for the environment hippies

Thanks for the replies, I'm going with Mac Long Tubes, BBK does notmake themfor auto's. Ok last question Mac o/r H-pipe or Prochamber? If the sound is better with the Prochamber I will spend the extra money if not I will just go with the o/r H-pipe. Thanks again for your replies and the answer on Michigan emissions checks.
