I am assuming you mean checking the calibration, not actually calibrating it--if so then using aGPS is the easiest way, they are accurate to 0.1 MPH...
Put 2 sizes bigger than stock tires on my truck and found out I'm going 4mph faster than the speedo clocks. I use a Garmin for my boat and my vehicles.
