GEARS HELP!!!
So i'm pretty new to mustangs. I've had probe's up until now, which as we all know where supposed to replace the mustang, but def. can't compare. I've got a pretty much stock 03 gt. I'm lookin for some gears, but i want to know some things b4 i make my purchase. First, wtf is the stock gear. Second, how big of a gear can I get without having to change the carrier. I'm on limited cash hear and am really gettin sick of a certian SS TB at my work thinkin he's hot sh*t, cuz I can already take him on the highway, just not from the stop. I was thinkin 4.10's or even 3.90's. Def. gonna go with motive gears from AM.com Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Do you have a manual? i love my 4.10 gears but if you plan on going F/I you might want to consider 3.73s. I think there is a sticky about gearing and will give you a lot of information. If you do much highway racing i recommend 3.73s you get more speed out of 4th gear.
stock gearing is 3.27
what is a SS TB?? an SS camaro? if its an LS1, there is no way u beat him from a roll with your mods. but if he is an LT1, than its possible if he was an auto or something.
if you an auto - go 4.10
manual - 3.73,3.90,4.10,4.30
all depends on how much highway you drive. I'd say that most people go 4.10.
but if you drive a lot of highway, go 3.73. yet some people who drive a lot of highway go 4.10 and 4.30. they dont mind listening to their exhaust for long trips at 2600+ rpm's
at 70mph, 3.73 put you at 2250rpm i believe
4.10's at 70 put you at 2600??
those numbers are close enough
if your auto you will need a tuner to correct your speedometer
if your a manual, you can buy a speedcal for like $100
id just buy a used tuner either way. that'll run you around 2-300 bucks
and no, you do not need another carrier with stock gears
