Default Sibling Rivalry

Recently, my brother purchased a 2001 s2000 and feels as if it should own my 2001 GT (5spd). Both cars are stock other thanmine being lowered due to Eibach springs and both of us are probably of equal skill. For the sake of the argument I am only concerned with a straight line race because I m pretty sure the s2000 will out handle the stock mustang any day of the week. Looking at numbers isn't always the best representation because there are so many differences in publications that I don't even want to begin trying to decipher who is right and who is wrong.Does anyone have any equivalent experiences between the two carsthat could shed some light on this brotherly dispute? On the thought that the s2000 would beat my GT from say 0-60 what would be the cheapest and most practical change I could make to my car to even the score? Seeing how he paid more for his car, I feel it is fair that I can put a few dollars into mine if I needto. I know it would be easier to test ourselves and see, but I don’t want to have to take the chance that I will hear for the next 10 years that his import beat my American Muscle.

s2000s are kinda funny, sometimes they are slow...sometimes you get blown away. from my MY personal experience with em, stock they are nothing. This is coming from a vert, with a stereo system(proble upwards of 3700lbs with me in the car). but i have also ran into one that was pretty modded, he pulled on me pretty good.

yea i have an 05 gt and had an s2000 come from behind already flooring it i waited til he reached me from about 2 cars behind or so and then floored it to test out my car as it was stock and i pulled on him. when he reached me i stayed right next to him as he was rippin it and then after another 15 mph i begin to take him by a car then 2 and so on, he couldnt catch up. He was stock wit his gf in the car, but i had mine in so it wasnt a weight factor. Then again 05 gt's and 00 gt's are coompletely different animals. But if i was racing a 2000 gt i doubt i would be able to pull that easy. stock for stock i think u shoould just get him if u hit your shifts right. But, with an intake and a tune, u own him. But yea i have also seen some nice modded s2000s but u dnt have to worry about that. But yea the best mod, 500$ intake and tune.

Tell your brother that there is only one way to settle it. Find a local track.

In a straight with both cars being driven correctly at the track they are pretty equal.

The GT's problem is going to be getting traction while the S2000 needs to be launched hard to hit their magazine times. The S2000 is an AP1 so it will rev to 9000rpm. When the magazine tested them, they were launching the car at 8000rpm to reach their low 14's.

Basically.... it is easier for the GT to hit its magazine time than it is for the S2000. Both cars are low 14 second cars, but they need to be driven correctly.

Handling? haha... yeah

What kinds of gains have you guys really seen with an intake and tune? Do any of you have suggestions on types and or brands of intakes? In reality I should be able to spend a little more then a grand to keep cost even for what is in each of our cars, so lets see if we can make sure that my '01 will run that import down before my brother and I test it out...definitely don't want to be beat by anything foreign.

Gears...that could be a nice change. What are the stock gears in these mustangs, 3.27s or something? My car currently is used to commutea decent amount on the highway and I get fairly good mileage, so what size gears should I go with to be able to easily out run his s2000 and still maintain decent mileage?

4.10's.

Your gas mileage will go down but not much. It all depends on how fast you drive. If you drive 85 on the highway with 4.10's you highway mileage will probably suck.

Make sure you have some sticky tires to go along with the gears. Gears - traction = annoying.

So by simply changing the gearing in the rear and making sure I get traction I should be able to easily push ahead of my brother's s2000, or will I still need more?
