Default Next Mods (Help)

Hey guys, I think I may have asked this question before but I really cant find the thread... Its been awhile since i've been on here and nothing really has been done with the car since, due to moving and family drama... Anyways, I was just wondering what i should do next... I have a budget of around 1000.00 and was wondering what should come first (Performance wise). I know I should get wheels, because of the ugly stock ones, but its not going to make the car run an different... Right now it just isn't as much fun to drive as my 93 5.0 was, and I want that feeling again with my 03 GT... The only mods I have are a K&N CAI and Flowmaster Super 44's... I'm looking for the best bang for the 1000.00 buck...
Thanks guys and I'm glad to be back...

Rob

Gears have been by far the best bang for my buck as far as performance of the car. It doesn't add any HP or anything but it does "wake" the car up. I put 410s in my 01 GT 5spd and it feels like a new animal. You will definitely need meatier tires soon after you burn those stockers up. Just my 2 cents...

gears and a tuner + install you should be able to do a little under a 1000.00. if you dont get a tuner your speedo will be off.

Sounds like a plan...
Next question in your opinions, for a daily driver, should I get 3.73's or 4.10's and what tuner should I get? Should I get the gears somewhere else from the shop i'm having it doneor would I maybe save the money getting from them... I know that's probably a stupid question but, i've never donethese mods before...My 93 had them all done before I bought it...Like I said i'm not really too sure where to go and what to ask for, due to being the first time... I feel like a virgin to modding cars, lol...

Alright, what the difference between the two and which one do I need?

As for getting the gears from the shop or elsewhere, you should ask the shop. For me, it was cheaper to get the gears from the shop b/c they discounted the labor for doing so. The gears were like $50 more than I could have gotten them online but I saved like $100 on the labor so it worked out.

I went with 410s because it's not my daily driver. It really depends on your driving style and your typical routine everyday. When I drive, I usually take my time since there is so much traffic in my area. With 410s on the highway coupled with the exhaust, it doesn't get bad until I get around 75mph. Then it starts getting annoyingly loud (drone). 80mph is like 3k rpms so its even worse. I am rarely up to those speeds so I chose 410s. Your case may be different. Do some searching on here...you will find tons of pros and cons of each. If all else fails, go with 390s...haha!

I got a used, unmarried SCT Xcalibrator2 off the forums for pretty cheap, so I used that to fix the speedo. There are plenty of options for this though. I only have experience with the SCT so I can't really tell much about the other options.

The difference is that the 1st link is just gears and the 2nd is gears with the rebuild kit for replacing bearing and such in your rear. This is a good idea depending on the mileage of your car. I have 55k so I had it all replaced.

That for your input bud, I have a lot of traffic here in Vegas also, so we have something in common there and rarely drive on the freeway... So 4.10's are sounding like the winner... My car only has 25,000 miles, so do you thing I need the rebuild still? That is if I don't go with the Shops parts... Did you do the SCT yourself or did you bring it to a shop with a dyno?

As for the bearings, the shop would be able to tell if they need to be replaced. From what I've read on here, they get worn to the stock gears and might not take well to the new ones or something along those lines. I think I've read that they should be fine up to 30k but I would imagine that is all based on how hard the car has been driven, etc. It was like $75 more for them to replace all that for me so I went for it. I could definitely tell that they replaced everything b/c it just seemed tighter when driving.

I originally got amail ordertune from VMP. I had my car dyno tuned when I got the gears b/c I wanted to make sure the A/F was good. My car was pinging at higher RPMs cuz it was running lean. I think you would be fine with a mail order tune or similar. Or you can get one of those speedcals. I would suggest a tuner if you continue to mod your car.

Cool, thanks bro!!! One more question(sorry) What about the whole Traction control thing, does it effect the new gears or just the same as stock turn it off when you want to?

Thanks again for the input...
Rob
