NEGATIVE on the question of taking it up to redline! Do you have street tires or do you have dr's?

with the stock cam and engine by redline the car is out of its power band... the only gear i take it to redline is first so that when i shift into second i dont spin. the rest of the gears i shift at 5200-5500 depending on how it feels. the first time i went to the track i didnt know this and when i went back i shaved over .3 off my time just by adjusting shift points.

when i used to shift that high it did nothing, after going to the track and seeing results after shifting lower i keep it around there. then again all these cars are different so you just have to try different things and see what works best.

You're a GT he's not. 4v's have different power band range than 2v. 2v's are tourqier down low than 4v's And the 4v's build more power at higher RPM's. If he had a higher rev limiter I would tell him to shift at 6200. But to be safe on the stock block and so his engine doesn't cut out while racing 5900 is cool.

yeah, I just looked it up again 97 cobra stock 249.6hp @5700 rpm's so why should he shift at 5900-6200 rpm's????? listen OP you want to shift right at or right b4 you peak NOT after peak. so I stand by my 5500 rpm shift point!!

It's true that at 5700 it peaks but you want to go past that so the rpms won't drop so far out of the power band after the shift. If you run it on up to 6,000 you'll be left at a better spot in the rpms after the shift than if you shifted at 5500.
