With an auto GT, a tune, jmod, and gears(3.73+) would be enough for a bone stock auto s197.
Manual GT, 91 perf tune, short throw, gears (atleast 3.73+) for a manual s197.

This is just my opinion/speculation based off of seeing a stock s197 baseline compared to my 03 GT's 91 oct tuned dyno. My car dyno'd 246/286 on a canned tune, while the manual stock s197 dyno'd at 281/305. The numbers are close but I believe the weight makes up for that difference, with that said the main acceleration advantage would come from the s197's stock 3.55 gearing.

S197's are very numb feeling compared the New Edges. They are faster although they don't necessarily feel it. A lot of cars around now are pretty numb feeling. You don't necessarily feel like you are driving the car, the car is driving itself almost.

i beat a new bone stock bullit last time at the track his best pass was a 14.56 at 97mph my worst pass was a 14.51 at 95.89mph 2.1 60' , my car is not bone stock but those cars are not bone stock sn197 cars either...

I owned a '99 GT 5-speed with performance chip. I now drive an '05 GT 5-speed with CAI/SCT Tune, 4.10's. Even though the newer car is heavier, lots of torque at 5,000 rmps and I would put it up against my old car any day.[8D]

I have beaten a few s197's but I haven't driven one before. They remind me of the foxes, sometimes I run up on a modded one that makes me look like im not even racing.

i love the new GT's but i do wish the mufflers were where they are on our New edges. 4v>3v>2v

Well they are fairly decent cars until you have to change the plugs and everyone of those sobs break off in the head but ford does make a special tool to get htem out but its still a B. I would take my body still over the s197's anyday.
