yea its kool i didnt know much about automatics either until i took a class and learned alot, it helps alot when you have the parts in your hand and have actually built one. until you do that it would be pretty hard to understand because it is pretty complicated.

I was the same way. Autos are SOOO much more complicated than manuals. Explaining them is pretty tough, too. I took a class on them and it really helped me. I've taken apart quite a few autos, but if it were my choice, I'd do a manual 100 times before I do an auto. Unfortunately there aren't many manual trannies in a Cadillac and Buick dealer that come in for me, lol.

why do auto's only have four gears though? i don't understand that, because if manuals are 5 speed it would seem that auto's would be 5 speeds also...so why the difference?

And 2002AUTOGTVERT, I havent had to take any of the 6 speed trannies apart yet. I'm not partucularly looking forward to it, either. The only cars that I've worked on that had them were a few GMC Sierras, the new CTS, and the Buick Enclave. All of these are fairly new, and hopefully it'll be a while before they start ****ting on us. Although, the tranny in the Enclaves do have a recall for them, but it's just a re-program.
