Clutch Just Dumped
Was driving my mustang home from work tonight, was driving just fine. Then when I downshifted into my developement it had a hard time shifting and the clutch pedal didnt feel right. Got it into the drive way and it was smoking and making the clutch noice. Atleast I got it into the garage. It barely goes now. So Looks like I'll have to get it towed to get it fixed somewhere. I kinda new it was going to go eventually, everytime you had the clutch pushed in it made a noice and when you left it out it stopped. Any one know an approx cost on how much it will cost to fix??? Should I just take it to the local ford Dealer?? I have to get my Mach 1000 looked at, the cds are jammed up also.

Sounds like your throw out bearing completly flew apart, or failed in some way. If you are somewhat gifted with tools and patience then you could tackle it yourself, if not then your probably gonna pay a hefty price at a stealership. You best bet would be to find a performance shop somewhere around you that deals with nothing but Mustangs, your still gonna pay alot there too, but probably not as much as a dealership would rape you.
As far as your Mach 1000 goes, I would just rip that POS head unit out and put an aftermarket head unit in there.
If your car is still under warranty, then void everything that I just said and take it to the dealership.

yeah pulling the tranny and changing the clutch yourself isnt that hard. a new clutch kit is about $250. If your putting a new flywheel on then your looking at another $250. I have no idea how much it would cost for someone else to install, i did mine myself.

My buddies throw out bearing on his 98 Cobra just went out and was doing the same thing youre talking about...smoking...making horrible noises. It was terrible. He ended up putting in a whole new clutch and everything and it was only about 250 total in parts. He took it to a Ford dealer to have put in, but I have no idea how much he paid. He didnt go with a stock clutch either..

I had the stealership put in my clutch when they fitted a brand new motor into my 2000 GT. The motor was like.. 3,000 with a 3 year warranty, and all in all labor for installing the motor, new plugs, and a clutch it came to around.. $1,600 in labor alone.
If you are seriousely interested in how much they charge for a factory clutch and installation, I can grab the papers if you PM me.
