Default Alternator Fire?!

I got a 98 GT...Usually at night i can see down the vents of my cowl hood and see my hid's a bit, but the other night there was also an orange glow...didnt think too much of it thought maybe it was my parking lights...got home and turned the car off and started smelling something burning...popped the hood and the cable that goes to the back of the alternator was red and charred and the back of the alternator was a tad charred too! wtf..it melted the nut and bolt right off..leaving the bolt stuck in the back of the alternator..trying to fix it now...
