Default when lash adjuster go bad

When reassembling my heads i had apart for a while i noticed that a few of the lash adjusters where able to be pushed down a little more then normal. My question is, are these bad or are their hydraulics ran on oil and since they where just cleaned (kerosene) and washed they are less likely to have oil in them? Will lash adjuster work from 96-98 heads too? i have some to replace these if necessary thanks guys!

Yup, they will bleed off after sitting for a while.

Are putting on PI heads or Patriot heads?

I'm installing PI heads

ok good, i though I had some bad ones on my hands. I would hate to install everything and not have some of the valves not open fully or have cam damage. I was thinking that they would bleed out becuase there is a pin hole in the side of them and they are in the oil lines.

Back again, the few lash adjuster were bad. I have ticking in the engine during start up and low rpms (under 1.25krpm) I've decided to just do them all since I dont really want to take it apart again when another one decides to go bad... My question is of course what brand to go with? I've deciding on these two

Enginetech:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...3AIT&viewitem=

trickflow:
http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/...0%201&comp=LRS

the enginetech ones are cheaper at ~110
the trickflow are ~180
^all 16
couldn't find ford racing ones...
what brand would you guys get if it was your car?

Hey man. Just wanted to see what you ended up going with, and more importantly... did it fix your problem?? I have a pretty nasty tick at start up for about 10-20 seconds and I'm pretty sure its a leaky lash adjuster.

might be, i ended up going with the trick flow ones just because i worried about a off brand not working as well. If you want to replace them you can do it without removing the cam. i had to loosen the rear of the cam bolts to get some of them in, but i was able to get all of them without removing the cams. Just rotate the engine a little to get the cam on the closed cycle for the lashes you are working on.

my tick went away after i installed the newer ones, but if you are installing new ones remember to set them up right in oil over night to get most of the air bubbles out of the them so they get oil pressure quicker and do less damage to your cams on the first start.
