All of you realize to launch hard at all with slicks you need a fully built rear with 31 spline axles right??? I mean you will snap stock axles with hardly any launch at all on slicks with uca/lca's. So there alone is another $600 to be done with gears cus it all needs to come apart anyways so the labor shouldnt be more. Just need the extra for parts. So built rear with gears of choice($1000 with install cus i wouldnt ever try a gear install myself), longtubes($600 with midpipe), slicks and skinnies including tires($1200ish if you buy new), tubular k-member($800ish w/ front coilover conversion iirc), full rear suspension($700 if you get the really good stuff like HPM or Team Z). So the budget is still pretty intact. But you could interchange some stuff like doing cams instead of tubular k-member or you could do cheaper suspension and do other things. So I'm just throwing out what im trying to do to be faster. Although im not skimping out. Im gonna buy the best that i can find.

Thanks for the feedback...maybe I worded this question wrong....how about...for a proper built mustang what would you start with as your first mods if you had 4k to dispose of....eventually I will probably dump an extra 4k after the intial things get done...I went ahead and installed a CAI and throttle body and plenum today and I kan notice a little difference. I'm thinking about doing gears next with long tube headers and mid-pipe but I'm in NY and no muffler shops or shops period are willing to do aftermarket exhaust...but I'm thinkin about takin it to mustang magic. I'm really trying to get a good foundation so that I have things like my axle and other parts breaking on me later on down the road....so any input is acceptable. i deploy to iraq in Dec...so would it be advisable to just wait until I come back and by a cobra so that I have a better starting point???

the cobra is deff a way better starting point and anyone here will tell you that, if you can wait i say go for the cobra but it has to be an 03-04 or else is not worth it imo. the CAI is a waste of money, you could of just bought a drop in filter and removed the air silencer to get the same results cheaper. the TB not a bad mod either but should be done when you are close to maxing out your stock one otherwise the gains on a tb are minimal. go longtube headers, the mid pipe is personal prefrence and so is the catback. if the car is auto do 4.10 gears with a stall and if the car is 5spd do the 3.73's. finish it all with some stickies and some suspension and that car should hit high 12's or low 13's. if it doesn't then throw a 75 shot on there and you got your 12's. sorry for the long one. hope it helped
