Default Sniper Commando, Yes or No

Well, with the amazing deal HMS is giving us on the Commando I can't help but think this may be what I'm going to do. I called HMS today and talked the guys ear of for about 20 minutes (twice cause I forgot the what I wanted to say, LoL)

For all of you guys that has Sniper, how easy was it to learn and if you were to do it all over again, would you?

I asked these same questions to the person I spoke with today and he gave me a warm and funny that I could handle it but I'd like some opinions of the end users.

What should I do? I'm tired of waiting on my tuner guy to get his **** together but I don't want to drive it 300 miles someplace and had some mechanical failure and have a huge tow bill.

(No I wont take my car to Lidio.)

I would never chose anything other than the sniper software. The only way I would ever get someone to tune my system for me was if I had a car like ox's. He has so much custom stuff the sniper just hasnt been around long enough to really take all the mafs etc and tune for them. Give them time though.

all you need is n accurate wideband and a good ear to hear ping and a laptop with some free time and you can tune it.

Except for boost levels, realistically there isn't much difference between setups with Shaun's and mine. (Heads, cams, intake, headers, exhaust & blower.) I'm just being an impatient worrier.

I'll also be street tuning this as well. There's no point and hitting up a dyno and wasting $$ if I can't figure out the software. I'll need to fiddle with the settings and really get a grasp of it before the dyno.

where ox ran into issues was with his maf choice IIRC. it wasnt his mods per say.

Well seeing that the first professional tuner I went to hasn't gotten my tune correct and I am now forced to go to a different tuner I am very glad I didn't go the commando route. Hopefully once the new guy fixes my tune I will be able to get some of my money back from the other guy. The new guy already looked at the other guys tune and said it is so messed up that he can't even use it as a base tune and has to start from scratch.

The moral of the story is no matter how much you think you know about something you probably don't know enough. Go to a pro and make sure its a good one.

I do it myself (tuning), and I'm no where near fully educated when it comes to cars. Took quite a while, and I did it slowly, but it's definitely not very hard to figure out.

Which one are you looking at getting? The one that has like full control? where you can edit fuel maps and stuff like that? or are you getting the basic one?

The way I did it I just made the tune more than rich enough, and then leaned it out. Very simple, and it only took like half a tank of gas.

My options for tuners are Modular Depot, Bob Kurgan, Nelsons Performance and then my guy for A LOT LESS than the other guys.

I did actually call Lidio this week, although I knew what to expect. He said my tune was radical and would loose about 60hp from it's potential if he tuned it. All he did was give me horror stories about why he's the most conservative tuner out there.

I would go with Bob Kurgan if I were you.
