Default Romeo vs. Windsor (BLOCK ONLY)

OK WAIT!!! Dont flame me just yet... im more than aware of the differences between the heads/cam/ valve cover difference and their interchangability on the 2 types of motors. THIS IS NOT A HEADS/CAM QUESTION!!!

lol but my question is regarding if there is a difference in the CASTING between the windsor and romeo blocks? in a search i found no answer.

They are both cast-iron right?

I hear the mean bearings are different, but in which way?

Both are 2 bolt mains right?

ALL ROMEO blocks are the same? 96-98 and 01.5-04?

I currently have a 2000 GT (windsor, 8 bolt crank) and to build my motor im going to buy a romeo 4.6 shortblock and swap the internals.

Everything SHORTBLOCK-wise should swap ok right?

black35th: thanks man, im planning to push my stock shortblock till she blows then thats when ill swap in this new block im going to build up.

I will be buying the modmax 5.0 stroker kit to put into this new bare block i will buy. Then i will lightly port my current stock heads... to top it off ill throw on Houston Performance s292 blower cams.

Finally, ill swap all the things over on my current motor to the new 5.0 shortblock and sit back as she hits 550rwhp

Thats an good site but it doesn't tell you everything you need to know about interchanging blocks. For example the the chain tentioner guide from a windsor block will not fit on a Romeo block and 96-98 romeo blocks have more material in the webbing and neither a cobra crank or stroker crank will fit without it being clearanced.

Ya, I found out the hard way that a cobra crank wouldn't fit my original 98 block. I got it sat down in there and went to rotate it and "clank", not a sound I wanted to hear
