To boost or not to boost?

Sxynerd - Yes people are running over 400 rwhp on stock internals with no problems but for longevity, however, OP needs an excellent tune whatever power level but should keep power below 400 level even on a good tune.
If OP gets into the boost often stock pistons/rods simply cannot withstand 400+ rwhp power they weren't designed to handle almost double the power.
If OP gets into the boost often stock pistons/rods simply cannot withstand 400+ rwhp power they weren't designed to handle almost double the power.

That's true for just about any tune. No one goes to get there car tuned and says, hey I think i want a sub-par tune. 450 is just as safe as 380. Now if you're trying to squeeze blood from a turnip like trying to tune out an unsafe A/F to make more hp than your mods can reasonable make then THAT's when the 450 is unsafe.

Rods bend/break due to cylinder pressures, not a/f ratios (assuming you don't literally seize a slug). Too much pressure equals "kaboom".
I think part of the the OP's question, if I may read between the lines, is about longevity.

Vortech is a very good company, as is procharger, kb, and others. Id keep the power to not much over 400, since longevity is your goal. But you will want more power guarunteed lol, so a new shortblock is in order haha.
Good luck w/ the process and let us know which one you go with.

You're making the OP gun shy for no reason at all. 12lbs although on the high side of where i'd suggest but is still safe.
op, 10lbs will get the to around 400rw and you wont have a problem.

I really dont know why we are even talking about this.... Most of you know what he is going to do.
I give him 7 months...
Once s/c'ed, 7 months and he will be ordering a forged S/B for more power....
We all know how addicting this @!^% is, you know he wont be on the same block for more than a year or so before he reallizes he wants more power and that he needs to lose the stock internals.
7 months...
BTW, OP: Get a blower!!! best mod you could ever do to your mustang.

He should be gunshy if he's going to push the envelope. BTW, you cannot assign a certain boost level to safety. A poorly tuned engine with only 5# of boost can burn up.
OP, a good short-block is not cheap. I don't know what your financial situation is, but if you're looking to keep the stock internals, just be careful. I'm not trying to scare you, just giving you sound advice. I'm not trying to spend more of your hard-earned money for you.
