The only two reasons i know of to stay away from UDPs would be
A) You have a competition sound system, requiring a high output alternator
B) You intend to supercharge the motor

My car came with a Steeda UDP kit on it from the previous owner. I don't know exactly when he put them on but the paint (or is it bluing?) is completely worn off and the pulleys are shiny. Not sure how long it takes to do that but the alternator pulley is the only one either of us had a problem with. The car has about 98,600 on it right now and it's on its 4th alternator. After getting it rebuilt I put the stock Ford pulley back on (the smaller Steeda pulley killed my bearings). Only problem it has now is the battery light flickers a bit at idle but goes away when the engine is revved up and the alt is generating more power.
