Default Alternator thread

Hey guys, my mechanic just informed me that the bearings in the alternator are on the way out and its making a hell of a lot of noise. So im just gonna go ahead and replace the thing. What should i go with??? Should i stick with stock or should i buy an aftermarket replacement??? Or should i send one off to have it rebuilt??? Im open for suggestions here guys. Any help at all is appreciated.

Just go to autozone or advance or something and get one. Unless you have some crazy sound system, you don't need a higher output aftermarket alternator. Most of the Autozone or Advanve or Pepboys ones are lifetime guaranteed with the reciept, so even if it's junk in a year just go get another one. It's not like it's hard to change them.

what about someone thats thinking about running underdrive pulleys in the future??? Would i be better off running that larger output alternator with the underdrives over a stock output??? I figure that the increased output would counter the decrease in charge with the underdrive pulleys. Im gonna run the steeda ud pullies but thats not gonna be til next summer.
