Default emissions are gay..

so my dad took my car to nother shop today in hopes to pass it. everything is passed, except now they are saying the exhaust is too "loud". i guess there is a new recent law say that 92 dB is too loud. and they are saying my stock GT with SLP LM1's at "idle" is at 99.2 dB. somehow im thinkin their crap *** meter is wrong. i work on a flight line with jet engines and power generators that are 85-115 dB. i know how loud 85 dB can be and there is NO WAY its that loud?

so im thinkin... either i can stuff some rags in there to quiet it down... or i can do what the ricer guys do when i see them there with thier "slip in" silencers and see if i can find one in 2.5 inch? any other idea's? oh and i cant swap the mufflers with LM2's or anything because the guy who i had do my install at the time WELDED the mufflers in.... yay me...

It just boils down to $$$ for the state, because most places charge you fees pass or fail.
If you fail you get charged again to try again, and again, and....

Yes, yes they are. Fortunately in Texas I don't have noise control. Had one loud *** 300zx and it passed fine. You could probably stuff something in the pipe to shut it up enough to pass, that or go to a shadier inspection joint. For instance, I have three shops that do inspections; a muffler shop, an oil change place, and a mechanic shop that has been there for 20 years..... The muffler shop will bitch about small rust holes in the muffler and wont pass it, the oil change shop is strict, but they will tell you if the car will pass before paying, the mechanic shop is where you go if you have something that bends the rules.

i have mil's and i passed with an O/R H pipe and LT's i thought they do a visual for cats so i was expecting it to fail. all i was going to do was cut two cats in half and rap them around the o/r h to pretend they are there and working.

mass used to do sniffer test (least on my older cars) but something changed now and they only check to make sure that there's no MIL. i only wanted the front sensors done but they did all 4 (my dads takin car of my car till i get back from texas). i was just gunna get mil elims (i spliced some in really quick, and they lasted about a week... bleh ebay crap lol)

worst thing is, if its at "99 dB" now i'd hate to see what some shorty's and a turbo kit would end up reading...

My fourwheeler was in the upper 90s, so it is believable. I never thought they would fail for volume. That sucks, like JC316 said, I would try a shadier shop.

Oh yeah, I went to a shady shop once and had holes in the cat on my Silverado, they just put a Dodge ram on the rack for $50 . Believe me, they are out there.....
