hello everybody
I have driven all sorts of manual shift cars and trucks. They are a lot of fun. But they are not 'better' than automatics. Years ago I was making fun of a guy who had an automatic in his 4x4 truck. He made a very good point of explaining to me why an automatic was a lot better than a manual shift transmission for hill climbing. Since then I have made sure that all my 4x4 trucks were automatics.
The same is true for drag racing. A built automatic will beat a manual shift transmission. Some dedicated drag racers have swapped out their manual transmissions for automatics.
You can also manually shift an automatic transmission. I have often downshifted automatics to use the engine to help brake the car on long down grades in the mountains.
Get a shift kit and a stall for your car and you will really enjoy having an automatic.

Side note:
The history behind the idea that a six cylinder automatic is a girls car goes back to 1964/1965 and the very first Mustang. The demand for Mustangs, especially V8 Mustangs, was much greater than Ford expected. They were running out of V8 motors so they started an advertising campaign call "Six and the single girl." It was a knock off of a popular movie at the time. The campaign was so successful that Ford feared the Mustang would become labeled as a secretary's car. To shake off that image they partnered with Carroll Shelby. The rest is history.
