Default Assistance on purchasing new gears

I am just about ready to purchase some new rear end gears for my car. Keep in mind it is an automatic 98 GT. Which gears would be best for this car? I think 4.10's would be a little bit overboard. And when I do switch out the gears, what do I have to do to get the speedo calibrated? Thanks.

If auto then definitely 4.10s and if you buy a hand held tuner you can adjust your speedo and other engine characteristics such as fuel and spark for more power as well.

ford racing 4.10's. had 3.73's and then went to 4.10's. if u buy 3.73's now you'll wish u had 4.10's later. btw mines an auto also.
on ur 98 all u gotta do is change the speedo gear to recalibrate. not real familiar with the older ones so i dunno what color gear u need.

I vote 4.10's. You wont be sorry. And how many miles do you have on your car??? If you have a decent amount of miles on your car, you might want to rebuild your rear end and do the install kit with the gears as well.

Hands down 4.10s. You will also need a new bearing kit with your gears.

How about you start out by telling us why 4.10s are a bit overboard?

Just thought 4.10's would be better for a highly modded car and 3.73's would be best for a car with a few mods. Still learning the do's and don'ts of mustang mods!!!

While hes at it, why dont we just get him to go with 4.88's!!! But seriously, I wouldnt go any less than 4.10's but no more than 4.30's. But if youre worried about driving and highway and stuff, go 4.10's. I have them in my manual GT and they rock!!! Got 24.3 mpg driving highway at 70 and then i drove full throttle at an open track session. So you have nothing to worry about my friend.
