Default Cleaning engine bay, what to avoid

So under my hood is all sludge and dirt. Im going to first use the foam brush that the self service car washes have. but after that ill just rinse it with a medium power spray.

As long as i avoid getting water on the battery and alternator should evreything be golden?

Apparently the COPs are very sensitive to water, I'd take em off and stuff rags in the spark plug holes. then you can remove the rags and blow out any that got in the hole and reinstall the COPs.

Edit: After looking again it says your vehicle is a 2000 v6, in which case you've no COPs so you should be ok.

Well i did sucessfully clean the engine bay somewhat, its not immaculate but it looks alot better. I ended up just getting some rags and sponges and cleaned it that way, then occasionally i used a low pressure garden hose to wash off the lose dirt. I avoided the fuse panel, alternator and the coil pack along with the battery.

Thanks anyways though!

your safest solution (not the quickest though) is to use a rag/sponge and some cleaner and basically spot clean everything by hand like you would the outside of the car. if this isnt quick enough for you i would do mentioned above and take your COPS completely out, stuff some shop rags into the plug holes, and then blast everything down. remove the rags AND LET EVERYTHING DRY in the sun for a few hours. take an air hose and spray the plug wells out to ensure all the moisture is out (water wont hurt the plugs) then put the cops back in and fire it up.

i wrecked my car this summer and had to deny my car back twice for a ****ty repair/paint job. the third time around they decided to make it look good even under the hood and some dumbass sprayed my motor down with a garden hose. there was half an inch of water standing ontop of my intake manifold. the car drove like absolute crap so i returned it for a third time. 3 of the cops had to be replaced and it ran like a champ after.

the coil packs dont like water. I would avoid spraying directly on them. Put a bag around the alternator, other than that it should be ok. I dry mine off with a leaf blower

Thanks guys for the help, but i already successfully cleaned the engine bay yesterday with zero issues. I just used a little common sense and a low pressure garden hose.
