when you say msd ignition i'm assuming your talking about the coil packs. how long have you had them on. i haven't had one good experience with any aftermarket coil pakcs. bought both accel and msd both broke within a month of install. started to bog down horrible right around 3500 rpm felt like a extremely bad misfire. also bad spark plug wires can cause symptoms like this as well.

it's the full MSD system. im not sure if theres coilpacks tho.. i would guess soo???

how much are fuel filters?

My '96 4.6L has just started taking several cranks to start once in a while, usually after I've driven it for a while. Usually starts up right away first thing in the morning. I've had it tuned recently w/new plugs, oil change, etc., by a well qualified Mustang technician, but I don't think the fuel filter was changed. Going to try that tomorrow and if that doesn't help, I'll take it back to the mechanic who worked on it.

I thought maybe the cold might have something to do with the starting problem also.
