Default timing chain question

tore the front of the motor apart now, and i stopped because i noticed that one side of the motor the chain is nice and tight, the other side tho has slack in it? Im assuming that the slack means the chain is stretched or a guide is worn or somthing, but id figure id ask. Is that normal? and if it isnt whats the best way to go about tracking down the problem, because i really dont want to buy a timing set at 300plus bucks...not really in the budget and everything apears to be in really good shape other than the slack. Any ideas?

check the tensioner and guides for excessive wear, otherwise its a chain.

im assuming the tensioner itself isnt likely the problem then?

the tensioner itself could have froze up, its possible.

By one side tight and one side slack you mean on bank A and bank B? Or one side of the chain is tight and (on the same chain) the other side is slack. In this case...that's completely normal.

otherwise its a chain.

what i mean is the drivers side chain is tight, on both sides. and the passenger side chain is loose on one side, as in moveable slack. I was thinking that at first that one side of the same chain would be loose, but when i checked the other side it was nice and snug all the way around.

care to explain why one chain is totally different than the other? not to mention there isnt suposed to be too much slack to begin with, that im sure of. Im just surprised its on one timing chaing and not the other.
