Short of taking them and looking inside them, I don't know if you will be able to tell. I THINK they both have the same outside dimensions that you would be able to measure, the only differance is that the LM2's have a preforated pipe and around that and between the shell is a sound deadening material. The LM1's are basically just a hollow cavity/straight pipe.

ah ok well thanks. I THINK theyre LM 2s just because how everyone was describing them, because they dont really seem very loud. Now, im definitely going to go with the UPR o/r x pipe, ive listened to some clips of them and i like it. Where would be the best place to buy them online, since americanmuscle doesnt have them?

Thanks again you guys were so much help!

Take a flashlight and look inside them, if you see nothing but shiny/smooth metal, they are LM1's, anything that looks like a cheesgrater is LM2's. I have an SLP catted x and LM1's. People tell me they cant beive it has cats because it is so loud, yet it idles like a kitten..I have a sound clip on youtube somewhere...it would likely be under the same username as here, but i cant search for it at work to show you.

If you want the UPR x just go to UPR products.com

Also, if you are looking for a BBK catted X you can also PM Hoss for a discount code. Def. recommend a catted midpipe for the loudmouth setups!

well guys after much thinking and contemplation, i have decided to order the Magnaflow Tru-X o/r x pipe and it should be here by friday. Most of my reasoning came about because i could just buy it right now with the bill me later option, lol. I am hoping i made the right choice, what do you guys think?

Only differance in sound would prob be between a BBK type x pipe and a true x pipe like a UPR, Pypes, Mganaflow etc.
someone else told me that theres not going to be a huge difference in sound

and im in howell, were about a half hour from eachother

Well my friends 04 Mach 1 with a catted magnaflow x and the same magnaflow catback I have deff sounds louder than mine at idle and startup. And I'm catless, plus it has more of a gargle to it.

by the volume and clarity of sound. after you rev up the engine (while rpms are dropping)
listen closely if it sounds deep and the rev is coming down smooth its most likely an lm2, however if it sounds more aggresive (think whirring-w. a little rasp) then it should be an lm1. That is if everything else is stock on the exhaust part. I was at the illegal races 2 weeks ago (before i installed the X ) and found a 97 mustang with loudmouth 1's and everyone agreed that the lm2 ( mine ) sounded better

You might as well save the money buying LM1's...there is nothing to them that a mffler deleet pipe could not do. You are bascially running straight pipe when you have them on there. LM1's and catless midpipe is advertizing something your car prob doesn't have lol. I know that's the case for me. LM1's and catless midpipe should be labled the "look at me exhaust" lol

I've seen a sectioned LM1...damn thing is just a cavity lol. But if you like shiney things...then go for it lol
