Default Ball joint problem?

I had my wheels off the other day doing brakes when I noticed bad wear on the inside of one of my tires. I took it to the place I get tires and he said that my ball joint on that side was bad which was causing bad camber and giving me the uneven wear. I'm trying not to spend any money on this thing right now because I'm saving up for a truck before winter.
But before I drop the money on this, does it sound right? would having a new ball joint put on fix my camber? When I was at the shop he put it on the lift and said it was aligned just fine its just that one wheel.

jack up the side where you suspect the ball joint is bad and attempt to shake the wheel back and forth.

Bit of advice, if it is a bad ball joint do not ignore it. I tried to tell this to my brother but of course he did not listen. Long story short he totaled the car , totaled the car he hit when he lost control. All this due to the ball joint letting go and now the front tires going in two different directions. I bring this up because he didn't want to spend money either.

Agreed with Cliffy as usual the ball joint affects the tire movement top to bottom not side to side. Another way to check is to just jack the front end up to where the tire is only about an inch off of the ground and stick a prybar under it and pull up, you will hear and feel a very distinct "clunk" if the ball joint is shot.
