Don't worry about the whine. Mine do the same thing on deceleration at about 40 MPH, nothing before that or after that. I even took it back to the shop and he said they will make noise no matter what. You will get used to it. Not sure about the other noise you are experiencing.

Do you have an aftermarket shifter?

You may be getting noise from that also. When I replaced my stock shifter to the MGW I was surprised at how noisy it was. There is a lot of noise traveling through the shifter.

the issue with it not wanting to go into gear at low speeds sounds like something that has nothing to do with the gears. however, usually used gears will whine, even brand new ones will depending on the brand. it doesn't always mean that it's not installed properly. I put used 4.10's in my '95 and they whine over 55mph, been in there for 20k miles and haven't gotten worse nor are they causing any shavings or anything in the fluid. then again i put used 3.73's in my '00 and they do not whine one bit. at any speed.

I just don't get it...when i rev it and then put it into gear it goes a lot smoother..guess that's "rev matching"...harder to slow down but it goes into gear.

haha since when is my name tyler? lol and rev matching usually takes some getting used to. As far as gear whine...my gears in my IRS whine and they are stock straight from Ford with 40k miles on them. lol But my suspension is mounted 100% solid, so I get a lot more noise transmitted into the interior of the car. But after talking to the guy who designed and builds the bushing kit i bought, i decided against doing a 4.10 swap and I'm glad I did. 4.10's will make more noise than lower numerically(taller gears) will, and I could even tell that with my old gears. I mean when you think about it, your diff is now turning 20% more than it used to to go a certain speed so you bet your left nut there is going to be more noise. I mean do our motors make more noise the higher they're spun? I definitely think so!
