Upgrading rear brakes worth it?
Who cares about weaving thru some cones... as long as I can stop fast enough when the win light shows up Im good. LOL
I've had 2 cobras, and never really used the brakes to their full "potential" I had to slam em once to avoid crushin some woman driver at 60mph and they worked like a champ

LOL I always thought you where a really knowledgeable guy... but the past like 3 days you really have changed my opinion of you. Take a turn once n a while and you'll see why better brakes are good for the car...
Later braking/faster braking= a hell of a lot faster time at a road course/autocross event... let alone a more balanced car into a turn.

But as you can see from my last post I said there is no point to upgrade unless for road racing. Maybe 10% of the people on here road race everybody else drag races or just cruises so upgraded brakes are not necessary for them.
Wow, I'm really shocked a comment like that would come from you. Someday you'll learn only lasting 8 seconds isn't all it's cracked up to be. I'd be bold and bet I've hit your trap speed on some of the 'back straights' on a road course.
I bet there are more street cars and road course cars than actual drag cars (I don't mean street cars taken out to drag now and then). Cars that will make use of better brakes. Remember, upgraded brakes aren't only about the upgrade when you max them out. You use them and feel the change anytime you use the pedal.
I suggest skipping the Cobra upgrade (unless you find a dirt cheap steal of a price) and go for the 13" rear upgrade.

I have upgraded my brakes now but only because of weight and I needed something to hold me at the line while building boost.

Can't forget this brake upgrade for stopping at over 200mph in under 7 seconds.

But still as a street car my car needed no additional braking power.

I think the solid to vented is pretty important in the rear brake upgrade. I plan on upgrading my rears next season as my current rear set up is about spent.
At the end of the day brakes are always a good thing to invest in IMO
i thought brakes were the same in 94-04 in v6 and GTs?

OP,
Smaller brakes in the rear will not make the rear end come around. Only if the rear has too much brake would it tend to come around. A large majority of your stopping power comes from the front brakes, so an upgrade there will have a very significant impact. Stock GT brakes work pretty well on the street for one quick stop, but will loose their effectiveness quickly if repeated hard applications are used. You can VERY quickly get to this stage if you run hard down a curvy road (mountain road) or road race.
I had a 2000 GT and now drive a 2001 Bullitt (same brakes as the Cobra) and the Cobra brakes are FAR superior to the standard GT brakes. I would strongly suggest upgrading at least the front brakes on your GT.
As stated above, until you have experienced the Cobra brakes, you simply don't realize how much better they are than the GT brakes.
