Default What do we need to run with an LS1

I am seriously considering a 99-04 Mustang GT purchase and need to know, what it takes to run with a bolt on LS1 car.

Many guys with just bolts on put down 330-350 RWHP. What does a GT put down with X pipe, catback, intake, throttle body and a handheld tune? Anywhere near 300whp? Is it going to take at least a set of cams.

I just love the fact that the Gt has such a stout rearend (which most LS1 guys switch to) and can handle punishment.

Would a bolt-on, 3.90 geared Mustang GT be able to hang with a simple bolt on LS1?

Does the Mustang weigh a lot less than a TA/Z28 stock for stock?

***THIS IS NOT A FLAMEWAR BETWEEN MUSTANGS AND TRANS AMS/CAMAROS***

with the mods in my sig i just got to 270 rwhp and i have a auto. If you want to beat a LS1 go F/I and you shouldnt have a problem smoking them at all

I'm sure the easy answer is nitrous/turbo/supercharger...I just wasn't sure if anyone had experience in both platforms.

Are the 5 speed GTs faster than the autos?

a lot of people on here argue both ways with that but no the 5 speeds arent faster if they are at the same rwhp, but the auto trans tends to rob more rwhp then the 5 speeds do due to the fact that the autos have a torque converter

The 5-speed will be a tad faster than the auto. If you want to beat bolt on LS1's, without resorting to a poweradder, you'll need to completly build the motor. Heads, cams, etc. Could do a stroker setup too, but it's much cheaper and easier to make big numbers on these cars by just doing a poweradder.

What are typical dyno and 1/4 mile times from a 5 speed GT w/ full exhaust, intake, tb, tune car with 3.90 gears?

Wow! Seems like a 12 second car to me with a decent 60'.

Is there a big difference in weight between the two?

between what? The two mustangs? I do not know what mrt has weight reduction wise but i had my trunk full(My amp subs and box 25lbs, books from school 20lbs, my laptop, a duffel bag with clothes in it) so i had a trunk full. And yeah i really should be 12.9 -13.0 if i get the 60' down, my car has a lot of top end since the cams, i have to do suspension and get some drag radials. But i have more mods on the way that i am excited about
