Default Treadwear problems

Kind of a random question, but does anyone have problems wearing the centers of their rear tires on their 99-04 GT's? I've drivin about 20k miles on my car with 2 different sets of tires and it always seems to wear the centers of my rear tires. I do some hard accelerations with some tire spin, but not really any hard burnouts. I constantly check air pressure and all 4 tires are ALWAYS at 30psi. I was thinking of running them around 28lbs in the rear to see if that helps, but I don't want to underinflate to far for obvious reasons.

I do rotate the tires constanatly and only have 3k miles on my new set of tires, so haven't rotated yet. They're snow tires so the tread is soft and wears faster, but the rear tires are down about 3/32's so far in the center of the tread. The outside of the rears, and all of the front's are wearing about what I'd expect. So what gives?

Center wear is almost always over-inflation. What size are the tires, are they wider than the OEM 245/45-17s?

< has window open too long and types slow

^ Was gonna say that too, but then I re-read and saw the 30 PSI. Maybe an oversized tire for the wheel you are running. What size tire do you have and on what size wheel?

Jazzer

PS. A snow tire has very HARD tread compound, so something else going on here.

Then why do all my snows seem to burn up fast? I only got 10k miles outta mu blizzaks on my old sho.

Size of my summers were 245/45/17 on the original factory wheels, and my snow set is 225/50/17 on the same wheels.

Edit: Even if it was from spinning the tires too much, wouldn't it still burn the tire even? It's not like I'm doing a burnout in 2nd gear and the tire is stretching in the center. It's only a GT, it's not a 700 hp cobra that can shread tires like all hell.

I don't know why the snow tires are burning up soo fast, but a softer compound will not hold up in the cold weather. At least not a performance tire, such as my Summer ones.

The tires you have should be fine on an 8" wheel, so I cannot tell you what's happening if all else is good

Soft tread compound is all I can think of. When we both say a soft tread compound, I think were speaking of different types of "soft" compounds.

Are you talking only your winter tires wearing out in the middle or do your Summer tires also wear out?
Winter tires are not designed to be driven on hard roads all the time. they are meant to be driven on icy/snowy roads. If your roads are always cleared of Ice/Snow in the winter they will wear out pretty quick

Your blizzaks are a very soft compound according to my dad. You dont want to run them when the weather gets warm because they will wear out quicker than usual.

Not to kick jazzer's ultimate knowledge to the curb, but every set of snow tires I have came across on cars feel to be super soft

Center tire wear is over inflation. The front end has more weight on the tires than the rear, so the rear pressures should be lower than the fronts. I have to agree that 30psi seems low enough, but it may be the pressure gauge you are using. Is it a high quality gauge or a fairly cheap one?
