Default Newb to the Mustang world, with questions

Hello all,
I've finally gotten to the point in my life where I can have a sporty V8, and I've got a couple of questions.

I've been searching here, CL, Eb, and lots of local places, and I've got my eye on a '02 GT Convertible right now. It has C/A, Flowmaster, lowered 1 1/2", and has 57,000 miles. The only mods I want. I don't want a racer, but something fun with a V8 that can still get 20+ mpg.

Is there anything that I should look out for on this years GT vert?

What do you think would be a decent price on this in Central Ohio from a private 1 owner (45 years old), damn near mint condition?

Any helpful info would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Ron

You will only see 20+ mpg on the highway. If your driving is short (5-6 mile) trips around town, in even moderate traffic, expect 16-18 mpg--even less in full-fledged city traffic. I get 21.5 mpg, with 3.73s, in a mix of 90% interstate, 10% rural and suburban.

An '02 GT 'vert with 57k, in excellent condition, would go for $7500 to $8500--the convertibles demand a premium price down here...

What kind of driving will you do? I do mostly city in my 96 gt and get roughyl 15-17 mpg with 3.27s

as for price id say no more than 8600$, and just watch out for the color, I think they got better, but the red that ford used, at least in the 90s doesn't usually hold up well over the years. It likes to fade and oxidize pretty bad. Happened to my dads 1986 stang, and it happened to my 1996 before i got it painted.

But goodluck dude!..and welcome to the world of American Muscle!

I'm from central Ohio and going back home from college tomorrow. Where are you actually located, I'm from the east side of the city, in Bexley.

Lancaster area. Bexley is about 30 minutes if that.

I know I won't get 20 mpg in town and running around, but if we want to jump on the highway and head to Cinci or KY, then I'd like to think that I will get better than 20+ mpg. Anyone know what gears are in the '02?

As far as "the only mods I want", yeah, I can see wanting to do more and more just like a lot of my other toys, but it may be a few years before I start modding too much. Only way it makes sense to buy, is if we can use it for better mpg then her Expedition or my Z71.

Thanks for your input guys,
Ron

Factory gear ration should be a 3.27, but when buying a mustang that already is modded the factory gears are usually one of the things the person already threw out in favor of 3.73s or 4.10s
