Default Mach 1 to GTO?

So I would like to throw this out there on what people's opinions are about this. I would like "mature opinions" if that's possible...none of this "Ford rules" and "Mustangs are better than GM/Pontiac" crap.

My Mach has 85K on it, STS, CAI, lowered, rear LCA's. My only other plans were aluminum driveshaft and flsfc's. It's a DD as will be the GTO.

I can't get over the LSX motors and their potential...full exhaust, CAI and tune people report upwards of 380 hp...add a cam on that and you are at or over 400. I don't see that happening with the Mach not to mention FOUR cams to buy.

I'm not a brand specific...I accept and respect all fast/fun cars, so give opinions un-biased if possible.

Problems I see are maintenance/part availability for the GTO harder than the Mustang scene obviously, but not in terms of motor mods.

Anyone have both or owned both?? I'm just beginning this though process. I have looked on GTO/ LS forums to see basic problems/issues. Nothing seems to really jump out at me any more than the optential "4V tick" (not really an issue with MY car but in general)

I've never driven one, but I live really close to a GM dealership (used to sell mostly Pontiacs) and I've drooled over my fair share of GTOs and Trans Ams. I think if you can find a GTO in good condition, you should go for it. They're great cars, sound awesome, and have so much potential. The only reason Pontiac isn't around anymore, and they didn't sell way more GTOs, is bc GM sucks at managing their company and didn't properly update their Pontiac factories.

I'm looking to go drive one sooner than later...the reason I gawk over them is the mods that can get you decent power I can do in my driveway.(full exhaust etc)

Doing a LT install on them is easy peasy compared to a LT install on a GT or Mach 1. Remove/drop the steering rack and remove osme minor things in the endgine bay and you can fish them in there. None of this dropping K member crap lol.

If you get one get an LS2 GTO.

They're badass cars. I think they're ugly, but the drivetrain and potential kicks the 4.6's ***. The Mustangs are a lot better looking, though.

I'd test drive a few and see what you like better. The Mustang is better looking, but there's nothing like driving an LS powered car.

Morbid in the S/S section went from a 2v Gt to a A4 GTO and hasn't looked back since. I've heard the gearing in Goats suck though and while launching they tend to bog or not get out of the whole well. But for a highway monster, I'd go with that over a Mach, and let me just say, I Love Machs! Are you ready to get out of the Mustang scene? I Terminator is right around the same price as some of the Goats out there. Just sayin'.

either that or an LS6/2 CTS-V, still like the Mustangs better though and they will handle better since theyre lighter too.

but if you want to sell the MACH pm me

A CTSV is out of the question....too much money for them but I would love to own one. I agree the looks go to the Mustang, but the power and potential go to the GTO. I like the look of the GTO so it's not an issue.

And if I get one it sure as **** won't be a A4...I refust to own a "muscle car" that is an automatic unless I am die-hard drag racer (which I'm not).

For $15-$20K...you can find both Mach's and GTO's with similar miles and mods...but the GTO will be making more power. It will prob come down to how I like driving one and what I can find. Ideally I would like to do a straight trade for the GTO and not loose out on any money whether it be private part or dealer.

Xemeth: Wasn't it you that put an LS into a mustang?? Is the LS2 and the added price for the 05/06 really worth it? I would rather the dual exhaust bumper and ram air hood...other than that the power diff between the LS1 and LS2 is???

sn95 331 GT yellow: Everything is for sale for the right price (I hate typing your sn btw...)lol

we had one for awhile it was a 2006 gto go test drive one auto and manual and compare the interior, power, and room on the inside i think you will decide from there. they have a small trunk though and small rear seat entrance but ALOT of room in the front and back

for the weight difference of that car compared to the f bodys that ls1/350hp up to ls2/400hp makes a difference that you will feel if you test drive both of them.
