you see, ive never understood this (not trying to be argumentative)...

i can understand that fact that a set of taller gears will load the turbo up quicker and MAYBE spool faster, but the simple fact of gear multiplication says that the shorter rear gears will still get the car moving quicker...

you cant honestly tell me that 2 identical turbo builds will be be faster in a 2.73 car than a 3.73 car...

or maybe im wrong, it just doesnt add up to me

if your running the 1/4 mile you probably want to stay in 4th,

with 3.27's 4th ends at 135 mph or so at 6k rpm

with 3.55's 4th ends at 125 at 6k

depends on how much HP you have, and how high your motor can rev really, but i would stay 3.27's personally

with my tires its hard enough to get traction on the street with 3.27s and a stock car...

op, if your gears look fine use them. if you have any doubts, buy new ones. on gear seletion, if you know 500+ rwhp is in your goals, id use the 3.27s personally

Well there is an exception to every rule. Comparing 2.73s and 3.73s is taking the absolute extremes which isn't the same as comparing 2 similar gears such as 3.27s and 3.55s.

Since I don't have personal experience and am only typing what I've found from people who have shared their experiences with me I will leave this topic be. I think the only way to determine which gear is better is to actually track both of them and compare times. Since the OP isn't going to do that we won't know. Either gear choice isn't a bad one.

But when I install my turbo I'm going to be keeping my stock 3.27s. If they weren't currently in there I'd still go 3.27s.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the following -
Unless your axles legitimately need replacing, take the money spent on 31 spline axles and swap the hitechs for turbo cams. Swap 3.27s and voila. It isn't like you will be running that much boost at first anyway......

Wanna be: do you feel that same way about the gears with a blown car instead of turbo'd?

I have 4.10's and really want to step down to 3.55's and planned on doing it but i was jw

Yea purp im gonna try and work out some turbo cams right out the gate and do the rear end a tranny later.

Im just tryin to figure out what to do when i get to the rear end. Gonna sell the Hitechs and look at either MHS or MMR turbo cams!

No. Turbos like load which is why people run 3.27s or 3.55s generally. Your blower needs gearing as boost continues to increase as your RPM increases. And IIRC your car peaks at 6200, right? That would suggest running tall gears like you are currently. I'd assume 3.55s would make your car feel very slow at lower RPMs.

Turbos need the load...so the 2.73s might actually work better to be honest

Theres probably a happy middle though...the 3.27s would probably be good, or even some 3.08s

I've read over on the turbo forums guys making a lot of boost with switch to 3.08s.
