V6 vs. V8
Rational 1: Someone can't afford a V8 so they buy a V6. So they have the sunk cost of a V6 Mustang. They eventually decide to mod it and so on... so they mod their V6 instead of selling it, then finding a V8 they want, buying that... then having to save up more money to mod the V8 like they want.
Rational 2: Why do people mod 4 bangers like Evos, STIs, and so on? I know several Honda guys with a built Civics making over 600whp. Why don't they just put all that money into getting a NSX or doing some sort of huge V8 swap? B/c it's what they're into/want to push those engines to their limits. Different strokes for different folks.
Obviously American Muscle did that to show people who own V6 Mustangs, "Hey, we've got **** to mod your car with. Look, it'll make over 300hp! Come buy our V6 Mustang ****!" This goes back to why bother modding a 2v Mustang GT or even a 3V Mustang GT and so on... why would you mod a new 5.0 GT when you could mod a Shelby with a 5.4? or just buy a fox and drop a huge engine in it and order a full suspension setup from Maximum Motorsports...

I'll throw my V6 $.02 in here. I got my V6 when I was young and straight out of the Marines and about to start college. As many people already said, at the time I couldn't afford the GT or the insurance. Now I am out of school and am bringing in a steady paycheck (thankfully). I almost walked off a Ford lot last month with a 2012 GT Premium...but I decided against it. Everyone has different reasons but here were mine.
(1) I live in Boston so most of my current driving is city; I have no need for 400 bwhp right now (even though I would love to say I have it). Even when I leave the city I am no racer by any means, I just enjoy driving.
(2) The people of Boston don't respect nice cars. They swing their doors open without looking and will lean against other people's cars while talking to someone else. The thought of buying a $35k car and coming out of the gym to find it dinged makes me want to cry.
(3) Even with a good paying job, the car is relatively expensive. My Mustang is almost paid off, I can't justify locking myself down with another loan for the next 5 years. I want to kill off some of my other debt first.
With all of that being said...I am waiting to see how the 2015s look on the lot
Ok I am rambling, but my point is I respect anyone who modds their vehicles (as long as it is done tastfully). If everyone modded the same rides (like the GT) where would be the fun and uniqueness in that?

This is wrong. MOST buy for looks. If most bought for power, the Cobra and GT would out sell the V6.
The pushrod V6s take VERY well to blower applications and they respond well to modification - sometimes BETTER than the V8s. Stock bottom end is good to just as much power as the stock bottom end of the V8 counter part for each year.
The real problem is knuckle dragging idiots who aren't smart enough to realize technology has made the V6 a viable option for those hoping for a fast Mustang, and think ONLY a V8 is a 'real' Mustang.
