I think it's because slicks give a little bit helping to absorb the initial shock in the drivetrain where as dr's don't give and don't absorb any shock from the launch, which causes things to break. That's my guess

ohh ok I gotcha. I was just curious and asking bc i just ordered a pair of d/r's this week. Shouldnt be too much of a shock on the drivetrain with the power delivery of the centri though. Thanks for that!

i guess i could see that, but ill still say this, most people can pull 1.8-2.0 on drs, you get slicks pretty sure that time drops, so even if they give a bit more, i would still be inclined to believe that a lower 60' time would still be harder on parts.
Bman, Don't get me wrong. sometimes people kill it their first time out.. around me, with my mods and the track conditions I was right in the hunt for other mustangs with similar mods.. and me being the auto, and them 5 spds.. we're at about 1500 around me so compared to 200 feet that will make a bit of a difference.. either way, the goal is to have some fun, and not break parts right? just keep practicin man, !

Correct, the sidewall of a slick will absorb a lot of shock.

It will all depend on how you launch the car....A slick will allow you to run faster 60 foot times and its less stressful on the car.

I did 1.8 on DRs but they were crappy nittos that wouldnt hook anyway
I did 1.6x on slicks all day
And IMO, that is not the case.
A slicks wall wrinkles and absorbs a lot of the initial shock, regardless of if your cutting 1.6s or 1.8s, I would still bet a slick will keep your stock axles alive longer than a DR that doesnt wrinkle.
I know quite a few guys that launch on slicks at like 5-6k on stock axles and havent broken them after hundreds of passes.
There is an autox coming up soon at Bristol and they are also going to have the dragstrip open for all participants that day. If you're interested, PM me and I'll give more details about the event.
