Finally!

DO NOT baby and short shift a new motor, its not supposed to be beaten on either, however the entire rev range SHOULD be seen in the first 15-20 miles on a car, not held, but it definately should be seen and used. dont beat it, but dont be afraid of her either. Let it sing a bit! This coming from a few motor builds, and numorous motor builds of over head cam race dirtbike motors that spin to 13kRPM.. let her breathe, and dont be too shy!

^ do you recommend going over 4k rpm?
My dad and I just put a new motor in our chevelle that is a high CR motor and our engine builder told us not to take it above 4k the first 500 miles so we have been taking it to 4k and no higher then that.

I took it above 4k in my chevelle during the break in, you just ease into it and not hammer it in little spurts. Highest i would take mine during the break in was 5500 easing into the rpms, you want the motor to see all different ranges of the power band during the break in period

its also good to let the engine breaking happen as well. dont beat the **** out of it, but if your going to shift at 6k, let it see 6k. just dont hold it, or rev it hard with no load on it. I wouldnt do any WOT runs, but little times shouldnt hurt it. If it's babied too much, the rings will never seat properly.
