4.6L General Discussion This section is for non-tech specific information pertaining to 4.6L (Modular) Mustangs built from 1996 to 2004.

I have a 4.6 out of a 96 mustang . Will it fit into a 95 mustang

OP, if you're ever interested in how to do relatively easy jobs that can be done in a weekend with a couple friends (like swapping over your drivetrain and electronics), just pm me for help. I've got plenty of experience and don't shy away from that stuff. There are a lot of people on here who've never really done any real work on their cars, and they're gonna try to make you think it's impossible because they aren't capable of doing it themselves, but the truth is cars are just big lego sets. If you can take it apart, you can put it together. Good luck with your swap.

Diabolical, have you ever done a swap between a 94/95 and the 96-98 SN95?? I'm going out on a limb and guessing NO.

There are some of us who have done it, and many more who have seen people fail at it over and over, which is why we suggest that it's not worth it to try and jump motors from the 94/95 into the 96-98 cars.

That swap is a pain in the butt. Like the others posted, find a 96-98 roller to scoop up and go from there. Swapping a direct swap motor is easy. Swapping all the electronics, dash, ECU and everything else is time consuming and a PITA. Not worth it unless you are doing an all out / big power track car type swap.

And you would be correct. What I have done, however, is assist a swap of everything from a frame-damaged '03 cobra into a '95 GTS. The architecture of the two cars is basically the same. I see that there are a lot of folks in this section incapable of running a wiring harness, I suppose.

Let me also mention that I'd suggest a different, easier route if the OP didn't ALREADY HAVE BOTH CARS. Why start from scratch?

Wouldn't it be more fun to sell the 4.6 and build a 5.0? Get a junkyard block, clean it up, throw in a hot cam and some good pistons then let 'er rip. I think modular motors are the best bad idea ford ever had but the 5.0 is a great motor and easy to fix. Plus if you're asking if this is hard to do then you will probably have a hard time doing it.

Lol yeah kind of. I'm putting a built 4.6 in mine as soon as parts are finished but I just love the simplicity of the push rod engines. Plus it's easy to make a 400 RWHP 5.0 (when bored .030 over and properly stroked to 331). I just say this for his car because that 302 is in fact a direct swap for a '95 GT.

Now that Coyote motor...that my friend is the stuff wet dreams are made of.

They certainly are the tried and true design of most big ci engines. Cheapest way to make horsepower with only one cam and two valves and whatnot. I'm just a big aluminum block 4V fan because of their enormous potential if you wanna throw that much money at it. Lol

And yes. Ford NAILED it with the coyote.

Oh I think everyone here wants to throw the money at it. But if it were possible for everyone to do so we would all have sigs that say Kenne Bell/Whipple 900RWHP etc...
