They go by the auction prices to not lose money on trade in's. They do not want to give you say 6 grand for a trade in on a car when they are selling for only 3 grand at auction. You need to realize that dealers do not always put all the trade in's on the lot for sale. Or they will only sit on a used car for a period of time. If it does not sell it will go to auction where they hope to recoup the money they paid for it. This is why they go by auction prices when they can. My wife works for a dealer and that is why I know this.

Bingo and if they do give you full price, it's just a show. They have the price on the one we are selling jacked. Like I can give you $1500 for any car, running or not on trade in, I actually want $5K for the car that I am selling, so I jack it up to $6300.
