Unhappy Is it worth it?

Will try to make a long story short.

First car I ever bought with my own cash was an 03 GT back in 2005. I did all the typical bolt ons, tune, new tires/wheels etc. I then left for the Marines in '09. Traveled a lot, and garaged the car at my dads. Due to some space issues, about 4 years into it, he parked it outside uncovered and barely started it. Fast forward to today. I'm out of the service, and looking at my once pride and joy... tires cracked and flat, paint chipping and flaking off, and engine wont turn over.

Being in the North East, it was exposed to some harsh winters and hot summers, and time has not been kind to it, nor have I.

At this point, my old man just wants it out of the driveway, and some guy swung by and offered $500 for it.

I cant even imagine what I'll have to do to it to get it back to where I want.

Does anyone here think its worth the rehab cost? Should I take the cash? I'm at a cross roads because I loved that car and I dont even know where to start.

Welcome!

Without looking at it, it's hard to say to what extent it's "worth it", but FWIW so far, I gather that it needs tires, probably a battery, and I'm sure the fuel system needs to be drained, cleaned, and refilled with fresh fuel too. There may or may not be much more wrong with it.

If I was near you I'd ****** it right up for $500. Where I am, I've seen 90's gt's not running go for at least $2k.

As for whether to keep it, it's up to you. Do you think you'll regret it? Maybe try what the other poster suggested. Fresh battery and fuel system clean oit and it might just fire right up. Chrisfix also has a video or two about getting old cars running that might help make it cheap and easy for you.

Oh I'm definitely not selling it for $500, it was just motivation to get my @$$ in gear. I bought it when I was a young, dumb bachelor. Now I'm an old man (30s) with a wife and a mortgage, and since I got out of the service I've had other priorities.

It needs at the very least, a new paint job, a new set of tires/wheels, and this weekend I'm getting a new battery and replacing the wire terminals to see if I can even get it to crank.

The breaks look pretty well rusted, dont know if they are salvageable... and i'm sure plenty of other issues. Being in New England and sitting for so long, I'm sure ill have some animal/wiring issues.

I'll take some pictures and get them on here ASAP. First steps are the battery and tires so I can at least get it towed over to my new house. Who knows, maybe I'll turn this thread into a rehab documentary. Equally possible this turns into a farewell eulogy haha

Worth it, as in if you ever sell it will you see that money ever again? No.

But if you have the time and the money and love the car, then totally worth it. Besides that, if there's somebody out there who's excited to give you $500 for it then that tells me if you sit on it for a while then you might find somebody willing to give you $1000 for it.
