manual vs auto
a buddy of mine has an 05 GT manual and says that even if he doesn't power shift his tranny his car is faster to 60by about a second than my 07 auto. right now we're both stock? i thought the autos were just as fast to 60???

RE: manual vs auto
no. manuals have about a 15% power loss through the transmission while autos have about 18 due to no real contact of parts in the torque converter (its also why you have worse gas mileage).
so at 300 hp, he loses 45 hp to the wheels, and you lose 54. the good news? 9 hp is NOT enough to beat an equal auto by 1 sec in 0-60. hell, he will only put about .3 on you in the entire quarter, and u would prolly win if hes not goin to drive it right. just go get a high stall converter and a tune and u should walk all over him all day

i really hope i didnt just waste all of that typing for you to say that about 2 stock cars. auto w/ gears will be dead even with a manual. a manual can out launch, out shift, and out power an auto by a slight margin, but its still there. considering equal drivers, a manual will beat an auto every time. especially in fords where the autos experience higher loss than say, the ls1's.

+1... Specter is right.. faster, yes.. much faster, no. The manuals have slightly more hp because of less drivetrain loss, and they also have higher gearing. So yes, if hes a good driver, he will most likely barely beat you..
