Default RE: header question

sdwndr- You may not have it listed but do you have a CAI? If so you may just be hearing the CAI (sucking sound) normal though. Kinda sound like what you say, kinda

I do have a C&L intake, but installed it long before I started hearing this sound. I will do a search on this auto trans sound, as I do have an auto.

I think I am having this problem...When I accelerate somewhat heavily I am getting what sounds like a burst of air. Kind of a SHHHHHH. I don't have aftermarket headers, but I do have an aftermarket axle-back. A leak in that would produce similar symptoms I would think?
Exhaust leaks make pulsed/periodic sounds speeding up and slowing with RPM owing to the pulse form the cylnder.

So, "shhhhh" isn't how I would describe it. More like tck, tck, tck or sh,sh,sh,sh depending on where it is...

Hard to put this in words, but any sustained "whoosh" noise is likely something else (read some auto-trans drivers complaining whooshing noise coming from the trans).
+1.. Sound is exactly as described above

I've had more exhaust gasket leaks than i care to admit. Mostly because of my driving, which lends itself to higher RPM's and not always letting the engine warm up completely before i play. Also can be caused by parking a hot car (especially with turbos). The different metals ie head and exhaust manifold.. flex from the heat at different rates, eventually causing a leak.

No change in your tune will help, the only thing that will help at this point is to have a professional pull the exhaust manifold.. determine if it needs to be plained and replace the gasket. If you don't plaine the exhaust manifold and/or the head it will most likely happen again real soon.

Okay, based on these comments maybe it is not an exhaust leak. It is definitely one longer sound, like maybe 1/2 - 3/4 of a second. And while we are using words to make sounds, now that I think about it, it is more of a CHHHHH sound. Like a hard K sound.
