Advice about break-in time...?
Everyone seems to have different opinions about the break-in time so naturally I'm a bit confused!
my 2007 GT only has about 250 miles now, and from day one I've been very careful not to go above 3000 rpm EXCEPT when passing someone (which I must admit I try to do at every opportunity!).
I then take my foot off the throttle around 5000 rpm, and have only let it go to redline (6000) twice.
Am I being too careful, or not careful enough...?
Should I wait till it's got 500 or even 1000 miles before driving with my (usual) heavy foot, or is it o.k. to "beat it" just a little bit now?
Patience is not my best character trait (that's putting it mildly!), but I'll try to control myself if I hear that it's stupid to push it so soon.
the sales manager told me "no break-in time necessary at ALL".
service dept. pretty much agreed with him (but then, they would, wouldn't they!)
advice on this forum ranges from the usual "drive it like you stole it!" to "baby it for the first 1000 miles then let 'er rip!".
any specific advice would be much appreciated.

The engine is broken in before it ever gets to the show room floor. The rear end takes a little time but your past that already. Time to start letting that 4.6 breath a little. Oh, congrats on your new purchase ! enjoy !
Thanks for the advice (and the congrats!)- but after seeing the fabulous mods on YOUR pony, mine will probably seem as slow as an old volkswagen "beetle" by comparison....;-)
id still go to 500 miles, and i wouldnt drive the same constant speed, would try and stay under 3k rpms, but let it go to the redline fully every once in a while to let everything really move and get set, at 500 miles, i would also do an oil change just because im paranoid like that
Thanks for the advice- much appreciated!
That's pretty much just what I'm doing (varying speed but keeping it under 3000 except to pass a couple of times a day).
as for the oil change at 500- I'd heard that before too, but other folks say do it at 1000, and the manual (and service dept. at my Ford dealer) say 3000.
I'm slightly paranoid too, so I'll probably do it somewhere between 500 and 1000.........
(everyone has different advice about which type of oil to use too- HELP...!!)
