RE: 2005 gt overheating problems... ? why???
Not sure if anyone is still checkin this post out or if you figured out the problem but I have a 2005 V6 mustang and it was overheating the other day. When I looked everything over, I found that I had a bad cooling fan relay. It's located under the hood with your fuses, and there's e seperate relays for low and high speed. You might wanna check that out.

I recently had exactly the same problem on my 2007 GT, ie it would randomly overheat and when it did the colling fan was not coming on.
I changed the thermostat, high & low speed fan relays... all the usual.
What it actally turned out to be was the contacts that the fan relays pushed into. They must have become too spread apart. I used a pair of needle nose pliers to bend all four legs on each of the fan relays out a little to make them fit tighter.
Fans run fine now.... which I'd have known this $600 ago

2005 mustang 4.6 overheating
Hello,
I had an overheating problem with my mustang. I changed my thermostat checked for a blown head gasket. Nothing changed. I checked my radiator cap on the overflow it seemed not to lock properly. I replaced the cap and the problem was fixed.
