Best Rear End Question
I am looking to buy a newrear endfor my car, the pinion gear broke
. I am trying to find what kind of diff is best so it doesnt happen again. I drift my car so its got to be able to handle turning and a lot of torque, my car has a bit of work done to it with Koni shocks/struts. I think its about 50hp higher than stock( I bought the car used not sure exactly whats been done to it but it runs a lot faster than my previous GT) This is a 2000 GT Hardtop.
What ratio pinion gear/ring gear should I get and what diff, and what kits should I get with it, it already has a DTS diff cover if that does anything. Just looking for advice, I don't need the best of the best but am looking for an answer that will let it handle the way I drive it without breaking again.
I think I need to get the shim kit with the bearings plus the diff and the ring and pinion, am I missing anythign else?

First of all, good question, but you're in the 05-07 section. Same axle basically but just for the future, we don't want to confuse you, with parts your car doesnt have, lol.
Next, IMO, get a Ford 9" to handle all the stress you're gonna throw at it. The 8.8's we have stock are nice but the 9" is practically bulletproof if well maintained. I agree with mygt500 ^^. The detroit locker should be a good choice and you'll probably want 4.10s or 3.90s to make it even easier to break 2nd loose.

The 8,8 is a very strong rear. The 9" is really for the really high Horsepower applications - say over 600.
I would think gear ratio would best be answered by you since only you know the location and conditions in which you drift - kinda hard for us to guess at that.
As for the rear, Lockers are nice but get annoying in a daily driver. I'm a fan of either the Torsen or Auburn units. If the car is not a daily driver the cheapest and best way would be to go with a spool. if you are unfamiliar with them it essentially eliminates the diff completely and locks the axles together. It is NOT recommended for a street car, but for drifting it would work really nice.
