spark plugs
Hey guys,
I recently read a post where someone was talking about taking out the plugs so they don't get carbo build up and break off into the cylinder when trying to remove them. I'm unaware of this problem, and was hoping someone could shed some light on it for me. I have a 06GT with 8000 miles now. I've never removed the plugs but was wondering, should I? And also, what precautions should I be taking?
Thanks for the help.

RE: spark plugs
i can't really shed any light on it, but what
i can say, is what i plan on doing.
every 10,000 miles or so, i plan on pulling the
plugs, cleaning them up, re applying fresh
anti-sieze, the reinstalling.
i think everyone needs to use their own good
judgement on this and decide if they should
do this or not

RE: spark plugs
I wouldn't worry about pulling the plugs every 10k miles--I think its overkill. Just change em out at 50k miles, and make sure the engine is warm--not hot, just warm. You shouldn't have any problems.

RE: spark plugs
It really depends on your mods. If you run mods that make your car run lean, your plugs will burn hotter and could cause problems you mentioned. Melting plugs happens to alot of people who run factory plugs with NOS. It also happens when you run a generic tune sometimes. After mods always get your ride Dyno tuned. You'll never have any problems.

RE: spark plugs
Coulda been me. Our cylinder heads are really close to identical to the 5.4 liter the way the plugs look and sit in the heads. On my 05 F-150 alot of guys plugs are seizing in the heads from carbon build up between the head and plug, when you go to pull the plug out the long smooth barrel part stayed in the head and if they couldnt get it out they would replace the head. Lots of F-150 owners have dropped 4k to get em replaced after a weekend plug change. The plugs in the 150's are supposed to be good for 100k but by then their bonded to the head so we were yanking them every 20k and lubing them.

RE: spark plugs
I took my plugs out at 9,600kms.,just to get an idea of how my engine was performing, after being "broken in"...I raced the car abit and also drove it only on short trips. The tune on this car is a bit rich,as well. There was no carbon build up and this is with a colder plug with the Roush Supercharger. The plugs were in excellent shape.I think it is wise to pull them once a year to keep the threads from binding .I have heard of more than a few instances where plugswouldn't come out, after 3 years.
